A Simple Life Lesson From a 6-Year-Old

I was taking our daughter to the dentist this morning and it was much more of an ordeal than I had anticipated. During breakfast, she was worried about cavities and when we were ready to leave her stomach got upset and she started crying. We asked her why she was crying and she said because she doesn’t brush her teeth that well all the time and she was worried about getting a cavity. She was worried the entire time traveling to the dentist even though she has never had a problem with the dentist before.

Why am I telling you this story?

It’s rather simple. What she was doing is what most of us do. It’s the, “I didn’t do the right thing and I hope it never catches up with me syndrome”. I could have added one more on to that and said…”because you want to do what you want to do”. For most of you, brushing your teeth is not a problem. Think how simple this is. All we have to do is brush our teeth two times a day at the minimum for two minutes. That’s it! What’s four minutes of your day? It’s not very long at all, plus we know how important it is, right? You need to change your mindset when it comes to your health. It’s about making simple changes for your health that last a lifetime.

Luckily she did not have any cavities. She dodged a bullet. Isn’t that what you’re trying to do? Each day there are small things that you could do to better your health, but you don’t do them just like my daughter. Why? Whats your excuse? I am sure it’s as good as my daughter’s…It takes away from my play time. Maybe your playtime is playtime or work or something else.

What have we learned from a 6-year-old going to the dentist? Focus on doing the right things for your body. It only takes a short period of time. The more we focus on doing the right things, the less we have to worry. The next time you go to the doctor or get on the scale, even though the results maybe not always be optimal, wouldn’t you want to put your best foot forward every day to make the odds in your favor?

That is what we do at Craig and Jenny D…we show you how to make small changes with your busy life so you put your best foot forward.
